Viscosity Standards – General Purpose Silicone oils
Viscosity Standards- General Purpose Silicone Oils are high-precision reference fluids designed for the calibration and verification of laboratory viscometers and rheometers. They are most commonly used with instruments such as those produced by AMETEK Brookfield to ensure accurate, repeatable, and reliable viscosity measurements across a wide range of laboratory applications.
These silicone-based standard fluids are widely regarded as the preferred choice for routine instrument calibration due to their excellent stability and consistency. Unlike mineral oils, they exhibit significantly lower sensitivity to temperature changes, making them ideal for maintaining reliable viscosity values even when environmental conditions fluctuate.
The fluids are Newtonian in behaviour, meaning their viscosity remains constant regardless of the applied shear rate. Each standard is accurately certified to within ±1% of its stated viscosity value, providing a high level of measurement confidence for calibration and quality assurance purposes.
Viscosity Standards- General Purpose Silicone Oils are also traceable to the United States National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), ensuring full metrological traceability and compliance with international calibration standards. This makes them suitable for use in regulated laboratories and industries where documentation and auditability are essential.
In most calibration scenarios, selecting one or two standard fluids is sufficient to verify the performance and accuracy of a viscometer or rheometer across its operating range. This simplifies the calibration process while maintaining high levels of confidence in instrument performance.
Each fluid is supplied in a 500 mL (1 pint) container and includes a certificate of calibration, providing full documentation for quality control records and regulatory compliance.
